What is the Internet?

 

 

 

  •  Basic Premise - We need to know what the Internet is & what Web Pages are to effectively search the Web

 

 

  •  The Internet is the world wide collection of all of the interconnected Computer Networks

 

 

  •  Computer Networks are made up of:
    • Servers - Computers that provide (host/store) Files, E-Mails & Web Sites
    • Clients - Computers that retrieve & use information from servers (i.e. - your home computer can be a client if it is connected to a network)

 

  •  World Wide Web (WWW) - A subpart of the Internet consisting of Servers Hosting Web Sites (Web Page servers)

[In casual conversation, the terms Internet & Web are both used to refer to the WWW]
